With the Price Calculator's cash-on-delivery defaults for Colombia, a product that costs you 35,000 COP (about USD 10.69) has to sell for 167,900 COP (about USD 51.29) to leave a 25% profit: shipping, returns and ads weigh more than the product. AI makes the creatives cheap (about USD 2.66 to 4.50 in credits per product), but it doesn't lower those per-order costs.

Dropshipping in Colombia runs on cash on delivery: the buyer pays the courier at the door, and you absorb the shipping and the ad spend on every order that comes back unpaid. This guide does that math in Colombian pesos (COP) using the same engine that runs our Price Calculator, for anyone selling into Colombia, whether you live there or run the store from the US.
Every figure uses the calculator's default values for Colombia, with a cutoff of October 5, 2026. Dollar amounts are approximations at the official exchange rate (TRM) of 3,273.49 COP per USD, valid October 3 to 5, 2026 (Superintendencia Financiera, datos.gov.co). The rate moves every day, so treat the dollar column as a reference, not a quote.
How much does it really cost to sell cash on delivery in Colombia?
A product that costs you 35,000 COP (about USD 10.69) has to sell for 167,900 COP (about USD 51.29) with cash on delivery to leave a 25% profit. Only 21% of that price is the product; the rest goes to shipping, returns, cancellations, ads and fixed costs.

The math comes from the engine of the Ecom Magic Price Calculator, free and with no sign-up, using its default values for Colombia. These are editable calculator defaults, not official rates from any carrier: 15,000 COP shipping plus a 3% cash collection fee, 15% cancellations, 30% returns, 1% warranty claims, 0.5% chargebacks, ads at 23% of the price, a 25% profit target and 5,000,000 COP of monthly fixed costs spread over 1,000 orders.
| Per order (1 unit) | COP | About USD | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suggested selling price | 167,900 | 51.29 | What the customer pays |
| Product cost | 35,000 | 10.69 | What you pay the supplier |
| Shipping and collection fee | 20,037 | 6.12 | 15,000 shipping + 3% of the price for collecting cash |
| Returns (spread across all orders) | 19,096 | 5.83 | 30% of orders come back: you lose shipping, ads and fixed costs on them |
| Cancellations (spread) | 6,543 | 2.00 | 15% cancel before dispatch: you lose the ad money that brought them |
| Chargebacks and warranty | 1,933 | 0.59 | Claims and replacements for defects |
| Fixed costs per order | 5,000 | 1.53 | 5,000,000 a month / 1,000 orders |
| Max ad spend per sale (target CPA) | 38,617 | 11.80 | 23% of the price |
| Profit per order | 41,674 | 12.73 | 24.8% of the price |
One modeling detail: the calculator assumes a returned product goes back to your stock or your supplier's. If it comes back damaged or you can't resell it, add it to your costs.
What price should you charge based on your product cost?
The cheaper the product, the higher the markup you need, because shipping and returns barely change. With the same Colombian defaults, the engine suggests these prices (COP):
| Product cost | Price, 1 unit | Price, 2 units | Price, 3 units | Max ad spend per sale | Profit (1 unit) | Times cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20,000 | 126,900 | 155,900 | 184,900 | 29,187 | 31,442 | 6.3 |
| 35,000 | 167,900 | 217,900 | 268,900 | 38,617 | 41,674 | 4.8 |
| 50,000 | 208,900 | 280,900 | 351,900 | 48,047 | 51,906 | 4.2 |
| 80,000 | 289,900 | 404,900 | 519,900 | 66,677 | 71,749 | 3.6 |
The "sell at three times cost" rule doesn't survive cash on delivery with cheap products: at 20,000 COP (about USD 6.11) you need more than six times cost. If the market won't pay 126,900 COP (about USD 38.77) for that product, the problem isn't the ad, it's the product.
Bundles change the math. A customer who buys two or three units costs the same to acquire and ships in one box, so the price per unit drops: 108,950 COP per unit in the 2-pack and 89,633 COP in the 3-pack, with profits of 53,927 and 67,135 COP per order.
How much do 20, 30 or 40% returns change the price?
Every 10 extra points of returns push the required price up by 16,000 to 21,000 COP (about USD 5 to 6). If your price is already fixed, those 10 points take roughly 5,400 COP off the profit of every order.

Suggested price by return rate (editable calculator defaults, not official carrier rates):
| Returns | 35,000 COP product | 50,000 COP product | Returns cost per order (35,000 product) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20% | 151,900 | 189,900 | 11,899 |
| 30% | 167,900 | 208,900 | 19,096 |
| 40% | 185,900 | 229,900 | 27,334 |
Now the more common case: you already listed the product at 129,900 COP (about USD 39.68) and what changes is your return rate. With a 35,000 COP cost and the rest of the defaults:
| Returns | Profit per order | Profit as share of price |
|---|---|---|
| 20% | 23,457 COP | 18.1% |
| 30% | 18,080 COP | 13.9% |
| 40% | 12,703 COP | 9.8% |
Going from 20% to 40% returns wipes out almost half the profit with the exact same ad. That is why confirming each order before dispatch, and explaining shipping and payment clearly on the page, usually matters more than another ad variation. Which sections and which button to use for that is in our guide to the COD dropshipping landing page.
What do Colombian sellers actually assume in their numbers?
They assume fewer returns and higher shipping than the defaults: a median of 20% returns and 17,900 COP shipping. These are the assumptions saved in 106 cash-on-delivery analyses for Colombia that 72 accounts ran in the Price Calculator between April and October 5, 2026, excluding Ecom Magic team accounts.
Colombia is the country with the most Ecom Magic accounts: 9,338 of 18,046 registered as of October 5, 2026. And almost all of them think in cash on delivery: in the same period there were only 6 prepaid analyses for Colombia.
| Assumption | Median | Middle half of the analyses |
|---|---|---|
| Product cost | 24,500 COP | 16,100 to 40,000 COP |
| Shipping | 17,900 COP | 15,000 to 19,000 COP |
| Collection fee | 3% | 0% to 3% |
| Returns | 20% | 15% to 30% |
| Cancellations | 15% | 10.5% to 15% |
| Ads (CPA) | 23% of price | 20% to 23% |
| Profit target | 25% | 20% to 25% |
Two things stand out:
- Nobody assumes 40% returns or more. None of the 106 analyses does; 27% assume 15% or less. These are assumptions from people using the tool, not rates measured in their stores. If your real returns are higher than what you entered, your price is too low.
- Almost half add a return shipping fee. 47% of the analyses add what it costs to bring a refused package back, with a median of 18,000 COP, nearly the same as the trip out. The calculator sets it to 0 by default: if your carrier charges for returns, enter it.
With those medians combined (an illustrative mix: no single seller has exactly these values), the engine suggests selling a 24,500 COP product at 133,900 COP (about USD 40.90), or 142,900 COP if you add an 18,000 return shipping fee.
How much does shipping weigh on the final price?
Every extra 3,000 COP of shipping raises the required price by about 11,000 COP, almost four times as much. Shipping is paid on every order, lost on every return, and drags the collection fee, ads and profit with it, since those are percentages of the price.
| Outbound shipping | Suggested price (35,000 COP product) |
|---|---|
| 12,000 COP | 156,900 |
| 15,000 COP | 167,900 |
| 18,000 COP | 178,900 |
| 22,000 COP | 192,900 |
| 15,000 COP + 15,000 return shipping on returns | 179,900 |
Before launching a product, ask your carrier or logistics platform for the real rate from your origin city for your package weight. These figures are editable calculator values, not official rates from any carrier.
How much can you pay for ads per sale (CPA and ROAS)?
With a 35,000 COP product and the defaults, you can pay up to 38,617 COP (about USD 11.80) in ads per sale and you need a ROAS of 4.35. Below a ROAS of 2.09 you lose money on every order.

- Target CPA: the most you can pay in ads per sale and still make your 25%. If your real cost per sale is higher, you make less.
- Target ROAS: how many times your ad spend has to come back as sales. With ads fixed at 23% of the price it is always 4.35, whatever the product cost (1 / 0.23).
- Break-even ROAS: 2.09 in this example. Below that number, every sale costs you money.
In bundles the CPA stays the same, so the ROAS you need goes up: 5.64 with the 2-pack and 6.96 with the 3-pack. That is a reason to show a multi-unit offer: the same ad money brings in a bigger order.
The math for budgeting tests is simple: if you get sales at the target CPA (work out yours with the CPA calculator), 10 sales cost you 386,170 COP (about USD 118) in ads. If your real cost per sale in the test is higher, add the difference before deciding whether to scale.
Is prepaid cheaper than cash on delivery in Colombia?
Yes, with the same shipping: the 35,000 COP product sells at 124,900 COP prepaid versus 167,900 COP cash on delivery, 43,000 COP less. The difference is returns and cancellations, which almost disappear once the customer has already paid.
Be careful with the comparison: by default, the calculator's prepaid mode sets shipping to 0 (as if the customer paid it separately). That gives a suggested price of 92,900 COP, which isn't comparable. The table uses the same 15,000 COP shipping in both cases:
| Per order (COP) | Cash on delivery | Prepaid (same shipping) |
|---|---|---|
| Suggested selling price | 167,900 | 124,900 |
| Product cost | 35,000 | 35,000 |
| Shipping (and collection fee in COD) | 20,037 | 15,000 |
| Returns | 19,096 | Not applicable |
| Cancellations | 6,543 | 575 |
| Payment gateway fee (2.9% + 900) | Not applicable | 4,522 |
| Chargebacks and warranty | 1,933 | 4,865 |
| Fixed costs per order | 5,000 | 5,000 |
| Max ad spend per sale | 38,617 | 28,727 |
| Profit per order | 41,674 | 31,212 |
In prepaid, chargebacks weigh more (3% with a 60,000 COP penalty per case in the defaults). With the Colombian sellers' medians, the same 24,500 COP product sells at 108,900 COP prepaid versus 133,900 COP cash on delivery.
A lower prepaid price doesn't mean it sells more: in Colombia many buyers prefer to pay on delivery, which is why 106 of the 112 analyses saved for the country are cash on delivery.
Can you run a Colombian COD store from the US?
You can, but cash on delivery means someone in Colombia has to ship, collect the cash and send it to you. That job belongs to a carrier or a local logistics platform, not to your store builder. When we searched "dropshipping colombia" on Google in the US on November 2, 2026, the first result was Dropi, a Colombian dropshipping and logistics platform; the rest were guides from carriers, Reddit threads and supplier lists.
Three things change when you manage it from abroad:
- Your money arrives in pesos and late. The cash collected at the door has to travel back to you, and the calculation in this guide does not include how long that takes. Ask your logistics provider how and when it pays out before you scale.
- Your profit moves with the exchange rate. The 41,674 COP profit per order was about USD 12.73 at the October 5 TRM. If the peso weakens, the same order is worth fewer dollars.
- The page has to be in Spanish and priced in COP. In our own data, 99.4% of landing sections generated on the platform were in Spanish (cutoff October 5, 2026), which matches who buys cash on delivery in Latin America.
Taxes for a foreign seller are a separate question this guide doesn't answer: check with the DIAN or a Colombian accountant before invoicing.
How much do AI tools cost to get started?
The creative work for one product made with AI costs less than the spread-out returns of a single order. On Ecom Magic, the typical seller generates 6 landing sections and 3 ads per product: 9 credits, between about USD 2.66 and USD 4.50 (8,700 to 14,700 COP).
Ecom Magic prices in US dollars and their equivalent at the TRM of 3,273.49 COP, valid October 3 to 5, 2026:
| Plan or piece | USD | About COP |
|---|---|---|
| Basic plan (100 credits a month) | 39 | 127,666 |
| Pro plan (200 credits a month) | 59 | 193,136 |
| Minimum Prepaid top-up (no subscription) | 10 | 32,735 |
| 1 credit (inside Pro / Prepaid) | 0.295 / 0.50 | 966 / 1,637 |
| 6 landing sections + 3 ads (9 credits) | 2.66 / 4.50 | 8,691 / 14,731 |
| Full Product Page with images (25 credits) | 7.38 / 12.50 | 24,142 / 40,919 |
You pay in dollars: if you use a Colombian card, your bank applies its own rate and may add fees. An ad or a landing section costs 1 credit; the Price Calculator doesn't use credits. The 30-day guarantee applies to the first payment of the plan.
Outside Ecom Magic you have other costs this table doesn't include: your store plan (Shopify, for example, has its own price), the logistics platform or supplier, and your time. Fixed costs aren't a detail either: with 1,000,000 COP of fixed costs a month and 100 orders, each order carries 10,000 COP and the suggested price rises to 187,900 COP; with 300 orders it drops to 160,900 COP.
How much can a dropshipper make in Colombia?
No one can honestly give you a monthly figure without knowing your product, your real return rate and what each sale costs you in ads. What can be calculated is the profit per order: in the 35,000 COP example, 41,674 COP if every assumption holds.
That profit depends on three numbers that change every week: your real cost per sale in ads, the share of orders that cancel or come back, and shipping. If any of the three slips, profit per order falls fast, as the tables above show. Be wary of anyone promising a fixed income from dropshipping, with or without AI; our AI dropshipping guide covers what AI does and doesn't change, and is AI dropshipping worth it runs the same kind of math for a prepaid US store.
What does this calculation leave out?
It leaves out taxes: the calculator doesn't compute IVA (Colombian VAT), withholdings or your tax regime. For that, check with the DIAN or an accountant.
It also leaves out real carrier rates, the cost of the store and the time it takes for the cash collected to reach you. And return and cancellation rates are assumptions until you have your own order history.
When is Ecom Magic not what you need?
Ecom Magic produces ads, landing pages and product pages, does product research and helps you calculate your price. It doesn't run the operation:
- If you need a supplier, warehouse, dispatch or cash collection, that's a logistics platform or your carrier, not Ecom Magic.
- If you want a ready-made store in one click with products loaded, there are store builders for that.
- If you don't have a product with margin yet according to the tables above, generating ads won't fix it: do the math first and check the signals in our report on winning dropshipping products.
For the part it does solve, there are the Ad Generator and the Landing Generator.
Run the numbers with your own costs
Enter your product cost, your shipping and your return rate in the Price Calculator, free and with no sign-up. If the product has margin, create a trial account: it comes with 10 credits to generate your first ads and landing sections with AI (trial pieces carry a watermark).
Frequently asked questions
How much money do I need to start dropshipping in Colombia?
There is no single figure. Add up four blocks: the store (Shopify, for example, has its own plan), the tools (on Ecom Magic the Basic plan is USD 39 a month, about 127,700 COP at the October 3-5, 2026 TRM), ad money to test products, and a cushion for returns. Ads are the big block: with a 35,000 COP product and the calculator defaults, each sale allows up to 38,617 COP in ads, so 10 sales are about 386,000 COP (about USD 118) if you hit that cost.
What return rate should I assume for cash on delivery in Colombia?
The Price Calculator uses 30% by default. In the 106 cash-on-delivery analyses for Colombia saved in the calculator up to October 5, 2026, the median assumption is 20% and the middle half sits between 15% and 30%. These are assumptions from people using the tool, not measured rates: replace them with your own history as soon as you have it.
How much does a carrier charge for a cash-on-delivery shipment in Colombia?
It depends on the carrier, the city, the weight and your volume; ask for your rate. The calculator uses 15,000 COP plus a 3% collection fee by default (editable values, not official rates from any carrier). Colombian sellers who use it enter a median of 17,900 COP, and almost half also add return shipping for refused packages (median 18,000 COP).
Can I sell cash on delivery in Colombia while living in the US?
Yes, but someone in Colombia has to ship, collect the cash and pay it out to you, usually a carrier or a local logistics platform. Ask how and when they pay out, remember your profit is in pesos and moves with the exchange rate, and check taxes with the DIAN or a Colombian accountant. Your landing page and prices should be in Spanish and COP.
Does the price from the calculator include VAT?
No. The Price Calculator works out operating costs, ads and profit; it doesn't compute IVA (Colombian VAT), withholdings or your tax regime. For that, check with the DIAN or an accountant.
