What is the maximum CPA?

CPA (cost per acquisition) is what you pay in ads to get one sale. The break-even CPA is the point where that sale leaves you exactly zero: pay more and you lose money on every order.

How is it calculated?

It takes your price and subtracts everything an order costs: product, shipping, fulfillment, your fixed costs spread per order and the expected losses. With prepaid sales the payment processor fee and chargebacks weigh in; with cash on delivery, cancelled orders cost you the ad spend and returned ones the shipping too. Since those losses also depend on the CPA, the calculator solves for the exact CPA that leaves zero profit (break-even) and the one that leaves your profit percentage.

How to use the result

ResultWhat it is for
Break-even CPAThe limit: above this CPA every sale costs you money.
CPA to earn your %The CPA your campaigns need to hit to earn what you planned.
Break-even ROASThe same limit as a ROAS: price divided by the break-even CPA.

If your real CPA sits between the two, you make money, just less than you wanted. If it is above the break-even CPA, the campaign loses money even if it sells a lot: raise the price, offer 2 and 3-unit bundles or cut returns.

FAQ

What is the difference between break-even CPA and target CPA?

Break-even CPA leaves zero profit: you neither win nor lose. Target CPA is lower and leaves the profit percentage you asked for.

How do you calculate CPA?

Ad spend divided by the number of sales. If you spend $500 and get 20 sales, your CPA is $25. This calculator tells you the maximum CPA your product can afford.

What values are used if I leave fields empty?

The typical values for the country you chose: shipping, returns, cancellations, fees and fixed costs. Replace them with your own numbers for a real result.

Is the calculator free?

Yes, it is free and needs no sign-up. It uses the same engine as the platform's Pricing Calculator.
